As a part of the Faraday Institution's Nextrode project, my group is investigating novel manufacturing techniques of Li-ion batteries. In my research, I am developing phase-inversion and coagulation-induced precipitation of polymeric binders (e.g. carboxymethyl cellulose) in liquid phase to reduce drying time of battery electrodes, improve their mechanical strength and induce vertical porosity, that can accelerate charging time of Li-ion batteries. I am also developing techniques to map distribution of aqueous binders within battery electrodes using EDX tracer analysis.
