The Department is committed to supporting all LGBT+ staff and students and strives to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable. We are proud to support Clara Barker who received a prestigious Points of Light award from the Prime Minister for her outstanding contribution to Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender awareness-raising both in the University and community. You can read about Clara's experience within the materials Department in her case study profile, where there are links to other LGBT+ pages as well. Also in the Department, Lorraine Laird is a Stonewall ally, actively promoting equality and fair treatment for LGBT at all levels in society. 

Networks and other useful links 

The University has a wide range of networks for LGBT staff and students. The Oxford student LGBT+ society is the UK's largest higher education LGBTQ+ Society with over 2500 members. The society provides welfare, support and a diverse range of social events aimed to cater to all students’ needs.

Staff are welcome to visit the LGBT+ Staff Network page, which gives information about social events, support and advice, staff benefit and other networks in Oxford. New staff may find the new staff leaflet a useful starting point. 

 

The Transgender University page includes information about the University support, guidance and policies transgender staff and students and initiatives to promote a more inclusive workplace.
