Mathematica

Mathematica is a high-level language and interactive environment for numerical computation, visualization, and programming. Using Mathematica, you can analyze data, develop algorithms, and create models and applications. https://www.wolfram.com/mathematica/

Mathematica is licensed via the Divisional Software Licensing Group and funded through top-slice funding by the MPLS division.  (Prior to November 2018 the software was licensed via the Department of Physics)

Mathematica is large and requires more than 5Gb of space, so before attempting to install the software please check that you have enough space for both the installer and the installation files.

IT staff installation onto departmental systems (Windows)

Department IT staff can do remote scripted installation of Mathematica onto department-owned Windows computers connected to the wired network upon request via itsupport@materials.ox.ac.uk.  These deployments are configured to use the university license server ouit-mathlic.it.ox.ac.uk.(see below)

Self installation onto departmental and personal systems (Windows, Mac, Linux)

Any member of the university can download install the software themselves from https://register.it.ox.ac.uk/software/index.

The self installation method offers two different license activation routes. The simplest activation method is to point the software at the university license server ouit-mathlic.it.ox.ac.uk but you need to be able to connect to the license server for the software to work and thus you will need to be on the wired Oxford network or connected via VPN if wireless or working remotely. For laptops it may not always be possible to access the license server across the network, therefore additional instructions are provided describing how to register yourself on the Wolfram website and activate Mathemtica such that it will work without network connectivity.
